Gentlemen and comrades of the Old Northwest Volunteers,
As many of you know, the Hard Head Mess is hosting an Immersion event on July 28-30th at Laona, WI. Laona is located in northeast Wisconsin and our event will take place on the Camp #5 grounds.
Registration for this event will close on July 19th, 2006. You can print out the forms on our Hard Head Mess Event Page at www.geocities.com/hardheadmess/
Just click on the small link for the event page. All checks should be made payable to Dave Gerow.
All registration, fees - $10.00 per participant payable to Dave Gerow, and waiver forms should be sent to:
HTR
c/o True Wind Eng
2897 S. Delaware Ave
Milwaukee, WI 53207
For those of you still undecided about attending, here is a small summary of what the event will entail.
This will be a unique Spring of 1864 impression event that will challenge each participant to expect the unknown and to work as a unit. The goal is not specifically to have combat interactions with the enemy (although that may occur), but to experience the toll of an active campaign and to immerse oneself in the daily activities of the common civil war soldier.
Our event is by invitation only. We expect all participants to meet our uniform & equipage standards, maintain first person throughout the event, and to have a good attitude about being a soldier. All members of the Old Northwest Volunteers are encouraged to attend!
For those whom may not be up for the immersion part of the event, we are also offering a federal base camp impression that will be very active. Some roles that will be present at the base camp include the regimental clerk, regimental quartermaster and staff, guarding the camp and the steam train, and so much more.
Period townsfolk and refugees will also be interacting with the base camp and can take the steam train to visit the front. Our standards will posted soon for those whom desire to participate as civilians. They will be at the same high level of accuracy as our Federal and Confederate standards with all items being correct in construction, materials, and patterns as compared to original articles.
We have some of the finest living historians to lead both the Federal and Confederate forces for the event. Dave Gerow of the Hard Head Mess & 33rd Wisconsin will be commanding the Federal company portraying the 13th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry and Jason Reinholtz of Mess #3 will be commanding the Confederate company portraying the 46th Alabama Volunteer Infantry for Hold the Rails...at all Hazards.
If you have any questions or concerns, please let any on the contacts on the event webpage know. We are all here to help and make this a great experience.
Thank you for your consideration, and we look forward to seeing you at Hold the Rails..at all Hazards.
Cordially,
Tom Klas
