:-/I don't know if this is appropriate or not, I used a Dremel tool to "widen" the bayonet to fit on my 1861 repo Euroarm Springfield. Worked fine. I also have a repo bayonet (I too am looking for an original), so maybe the Dremel idea might scare you off with an original.

Just a note: the Idea of "interchangable parts" was great, but did not always work. I own about 30+ original Springfields or contracts and not all my original bayonets fit each original musket. I usually use an original musket when renacting, and the first thing I have to do is make sure the bayonet I'm taking fits that particular musket I'm using.(For example on my 2 original '42s, I have 1 bayonet that fits both and 1 bayonet that fits only 1 of the 2) (I do have bayonets for every musket). So, the best bet would to look around and try to find an original bayonet with a slightly larger diamater for the socket, as they are all not the same. "The Horse Soldier" in Gettysburg has boxes of original bayonets to play and try to fit with. JMW

Sorry Doug, I missed your last post. If you just go to a search engine like metacrawler and put in "the horse soldier" you will find their web site JMW
