Dear Bob,
The following announcement was approved by Fort Delaware this afternoon for release:
“A HOUSE DIVIDED: UNION GUARDS, CONFEDERATE PRISONERS, AND THEIR CIVILIAN INTERMEDIARIES”
FORT DELAWARE DURING MAY, 1863
A LIVING HISTORY IMMERSION EVENT JOINTLY HOSTED BY THE KEARNY GUARDS & FORT DELAWARE STATE PARK
The Kearny Guards are pleased to announce plans to host jointly with Fort Delaware State Park a living history from Friday afternoon, May 16th, 2003 through Sunday afternoon May 18th at the Fort. The goal of the event is to recreate the lives of the Federal guards, Confederate prisoners, and the civilians who worked and lived at the fort during the Civil War. The event will be a total immersion experience for participants, who will be required to live under 19th Century conditions during the entire weekend. It will be a unique event for the Fort, and will be by invitation only to select groups of living historians from around the country.
Proceeds of the event will be donated to the Fort to help with its on-going program of restoring the site to its appearance during the Civil War. A web site is currently in development that will feature information about the event, authenticity standards, a registration application and other pertinent information. To learn more about the event or to request an invitation, please contact Bill Cross, Chair of the Kearny Guards at wcross@BSLG.com.
Obviously, we'd love to have the 33rd support this event next May. We're aiming to deliver a solid experience, and are currently working out the details of the guiding impression, scenario specifics, etc. But I can assure you that authenticity and event guidelines will conform to the high standards of the 33rd. Maybe we can even blast Weed out from Badgerland and get him to come East for this one.
Please let me know what steps the Kearny Guards will need to take to secure the endorsement and support of the 33rd for this event.
YOS,
Bill Cross
Chair

PS. We're very much looking forward to hosting the 33rd boys and Hard Head Mess at Recon2 next month!
