Hello.
I guess for starters, it would be nice to know the name of your ancestor, and any other info. you might have on him.
After that, we can better direct you.

I'm not sure what info you already have but here is what i could find:
Thomas H. Bishop enlisted in Co. H of the 33rd Wis. Vol. Inf. on August 18 1862, out of Salem, Wisconsin. He was mustered out on August 9, 1865. And i am guessing that as of 1895 he wasn't living in Wisconsin because i did not find him on the 1895 census of Wisconsin soldiers still living in Wisconsin.

Spencer, you are correct--- Thomas H. Bishop was not on the 1895 census because he no longer lived in Wisconsin at that time.
Like many Kenosha County veterans, he relocated to the more productive wheat belts of Iowa, Nebraska, or Kansas to resume farming after the demise of wheat in Wisconsin, circa 1870s-80s. The "Nebraska State Gazetteer 1890 Farmer's List" has the entry: "Bishop, T H, Pleasant Dale."
In 1893, a Thomas Bishop is listed on a roster of Nebraska ACW veterans. His place of residence was listed as Pleasant Dale, Seward County, NE. (Pleasant Dale is located in eastern Seward County, and due west of Lincoln, NE.) I believe the entry from the 1890 Farmer's List and the "Bishop" listed on the veteran list may well be the same person.
We know that Bishop ventured from Nebraska to attend the June 14, 1914 reunion of Companies "H" and "I" in Kenosha, at the home of long-time veteran activist and historian Frank Lyman. Bishop had apparently re-married, and was accompanied by his bride "of just a few days," according to the Kenosha Evening News.
This was the only recorded reunion of the Kenosha companies which featured the attendance of Mr. Bishop. Presumably, he returned to and eventually passed on in Nebraska.
I have more information on Company "H" which will require more digging.
Bob.

Thomas Bishop did go to Pleasant Dale, NE after the war. My Grandma has a picture of them at their farm. If any more information is turned up please post it. Thank you for the information. I see that the 33rd Wisconsin will be at Civil War weekend. I will be there Friday night, and again on Saturday night and Sunday. come to the U.S. Christian Commission room and say hi. Thanks Again Todd Hein

Captain Nicholas Smith started a descriptive book of sorts on Co. H while the regiment was located at Devall's Bluff, Arkansas between September 5 and 7, 1864.
In it, he listed Thomas H. Bishop as being 21 years old, 5 foot, 3 1/2 inches tall, light complexion, light hair, and blue eyes. He was born in New York State. Along with mentions of his pay record (mostly dates) and clothing allowances to date, there is no indication of him either being wounded up to that time, or having served in any other capacity other than that of a private soldier.

He was born in New York, But didn't have blond hair and blue eyes. No Bishop in my family has blond hair and blue eyes. Either my G-G-Grand father was in a diffrent regiment or the person who did that discription was mistaken. He did live in Salem Wisc. Todd Hein
