Pards,
Brad is correct in saying that we need to decide on an impression for this event, pronto! Here is a thread that we can post our own ideas, and critique each others.
Andy's Plan (On the road to Atlanta)
My vision for this event is too mimic as closely as possible the experience that six of us had at "The Outpost" in Georgia. We meet early in the morning on saturday, the confeterates do the same at a seperate location. Both groups step off at the same time and head to the designated area. One squad is placed in reserve, while the other is ordered to take up positions in the outposts along the creek. Every 4 hours the reserve is rotated onto the line, and the squad comming off line has ample time to rest, eat, read, ece.... If we get the desired number of 15 people per side, that divides nicely into...two squads of 6 with a corporal of the guard for each squad, and a seargent in charge of the whole group. Six privates in each squad translates into three pits with two soldiers per pit, stretching along the bank.
For first person portrayal, i thought that we could do the 12th Wisconsin. This would be a re-creation of thier actions on the banks of the Nickajack Creek (Kenesaw Mt.), July 5-8 1864. When they pushed the Confeterates out of thier positions on the near bank, and across the crick to the oposite side. They then put out pickets along the creek with the confeterates doing the same on the oposite side, and remained there for three days before crossing on July 8th. Now, I know that April in Wisconsin is hardly July in Georgia, but I think this fits well enough!
I'd like this to be as emersion as possible! We have a pretty remote location, and if we take it seriously we can make it really cool! I would like us to try first person at all times, and to have live....unrestricted and unpredictable contact with the enemy. We are on picket duty, and we need to behave as such! If you know that the enemy can't fire at you, or come across because of a restriction. I think that it detracts from the feeling of realism! All those who attended Outpost, know what im talking about!
I think this will be a fun learning experience for all who attend, especially those that will be traveling to Recon! Here is my tenative Schedule of events based on what Scott has.....
Saturday April 6 (July 7, 1864)
6:30 a.m - Revelie
6:30 -7:30 a.m - Arival and Registration for ALL participants!
7:30 a.m - Role Call and Review Scenario.....Final Orders
(First Person Begins With the Order to Fall in for Role Call)
8:00 a.m - STEP OFF!!!!!
*******Outpost Duty Along The Nickajack Creek********
Sunday April 7 (July 8, 1864)
10:00 a.m - Event Raps Up
(note) We need to get an exact number of those who can attend, ASAP! So that we can prepare enough rifle pits to acomodate everyone! ALSO* It is absolutely vital that everyone who is participating, arive on time! We need every man to step off at exactly 8:00 am....so be there at 7:30! This is important because i want to keep the exact location of the pits a secret, so that the terain is new to everyone the day of the event! It will be difficult for those comming late, to join the rest of the group
Okay! This is just my idea of what it should be like! You guys can pick it apart, and im sure you will! This is something that i would send out as part of an info packet, before the event! Let me know guys ( i spent allot of time on this)
