I have been asked by the Federal commander for "Into the Wilderness" (Recon3) to raise the 7th Maine for the event. John Wedeward has agreed to be one of my captains, and I'm extending a general invitation to the 33rd and the Hard Heads to come East for this fine event planned on the property owned by the Civil War Preservation Trust near Brandy Station, VA April 30-May 2nd 2004.
The 7th was badly used up in the Antietam campaign, and had been sent home to Maine to reorganize and refit. By the Spring of 1864, it had five companies, and we hope very earnestly to replicated those companies next year.
There are many fine aspects to this event, including a minimum of modern distractions. Those of you who attended Recon2 (and who helped us win "Best Federal Company") will recall the emphasis on first person development, as well as having the right kit. To help the latter, we have some bulk gear buys that are being run, including shelter halves and leathers to be "issued" at the event.
Anyone interested is urged to subscribe to the 7th Maine list server by sending an email to 7thMaine-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. I hope to see you boys next Spring in Virginia!
